Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], July 5: Two brothers named Karan and Kartik Bissa set out on a journey in 2014 that would change their lives and alter the face of wooden house temples in India. Back then, they were just starting out, driven by the desire for financial stability and a yearning to carve their own path with D’DASS Store.
“It was a new beginning,” says Karan, reflecting on those early days. “We were working regular jobs, but there was a spark missing. We craved something we could build, something with our own identity.”
The seed of their future success was sown during a visit from their father’s friend. He introduced them to the world of handcrafted products, specifically handmade wooden clocks. Inspired by the intricate craftsmanship, the brothers saw an opportunity not just to sell products but to build a brand.
“At that time,” Kartik chimes in, “suppliers mostly dealt in generic products. We wanted to create a brand that stood for quality and heritage.”
Their first step was a trip to their hometown, Pokaran, during the auspicious festival of Navratri. Moving ahead with just a few clocks and a cousin’s friendly network, they ventured into the local market. Surprisingly, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Their entire stock sold out within a day, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and the validation they needed to move forward.
Building a brand name, however, proved to be a more personal affair. During a casual stroll, inspiration struck Karan. “We wanted to honour our great-grandfather,” he explains, “Seth Dungar Das Bissa, a successful businessman in his time. He was our inspiration, and his name, D’DASS, became our brand.”
With a name and a growing product line, the brothers set about establishing a proper base. Initially, they relied on black and white printouts for brochures, operating without a dedicated office space. Slowly but surely, the D’DASS Store began to take shape.
Today, D’DASS Store is already a household brand with exquisite wooden home temples (pooja mandirs/Pooja Mandapam) across India. It has been a major supplier of wooden home temples to all online furniture companies and has been consistently awarded the “Customer Delight Award” and “Most Trusted Brand” by Pepperfry.com for the past several years. Its enormous 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Jodhpur churns out over 1000 unique designs, catering to every taste and tradition. What’s more, it is the only company in India to offer an online puja mandir customisation tool, allowing customers to tailor their mandir to their specific needs.
